I don’t think it would be out of place to say this was one of the most insightful PM courses I have taken this year, with due respect to the brilliant minds out there. I loved how Marily Nika broke some intricate details down in the most simple form. While I wish I could compound my 9 pages of notes from this course into 150 words, I would do my best to share some points that stood out to me.

I hope to use this article to highlight the importance of having everyone on the product team adopt the PM mindset (users and customer focused)

  • As a PM, you should have a vision of WHAT needs to be built, have strong empathy for your target audience, and be able to communicate your vision with your team.
  • You should always have it at the back of your mind that the market always wins.
  • PMs wear multiple hats, but the most important of them all is being a JANITOR. Be willing to roll up your sleeves and find your way out of difficult situations while giving the team a reason to keep going.
  • Frameworks are important, and if they are not broken, there is no need to spend time fixing them.
  • What is an MVP? This is the minimum working version of your product; it should just be enough to provide the necessary feedback you need from your users. The faster you ship, the quicker you learn, and the more valuable your product becomes for your users.
  • BONUS POINT: As much as I want to share more, I would leave you with this final tip. It is okay to fail because that is how you learn. So fail big and FAIL FAST.
